Quick guide: Getting started with Pause

Welcome to Pause!

If you've just been added to this time-off management tool by your admin, this guide will help you get started. Pause is super easy to use, so don't be overwhelmed!

You might like to keep our glossary open, if you want to cross-check unfamiliar terms.

Signing up / in for the first time

You should receive an email invite from Pause when your admin adds you to Pause/invites you to Pause. Please use the link in the email to set your password and then to log in to Pause.
If you don’t see an invite email, you can ask your admin to resend the invite emails.

The first time you login to Pause on the web, you will be asked to enter your full name, date of birth and work anniversary date (all optional, but preferred).
Most other things (like applicable leave policies, team name, and approver) should already be configured for you, so you don't have to worry about these!

Using Pause’s Slack bot

If your admin has connected the Pause Slack bot for your Slack workspace, you can start using Pause directly from the Slack workspace.
To use Pause Slack bot, just type /pause anywhere in your Slack workspace (e.g. in #general or in your DM with yourself) and then hit the return/Enter key.
Don’t worry, the response from Pause Slack bot will only be visible to you.

Pause Slack bot will respond with the following message:

Choose the option you want, and follow the relevant instructions from there.

It's super easy. There are no special commands to remember. Just type /pause, hit enter and click on the options you see in the message.

Here's what you can do with the Pause Slack bot:
Apply for leave

Using the Google Calendar integration

Pause can help automate some things w.r.t calendars for you. For example, it can automatically decline events with a custom “out of office” message whenever you’re on leave.

Here’s how to use Pause’s Google Calendar integration:
Connect Pause to your Google Calendar
Add leaves to your calendar
Auto-decline meetings when you're on leave

Get birthday and work anniversary notifications

Pause can also send you notifications on Slack about upcoming birthdays or work anniversaries of your co-workers.
Here's how you can do this.
