How do I apply for leave using Pause?

There are three ways to apply for leave on Pause — and they're all as simple as it can get!

On the Pause browser app

Step 1: Click on the Calendar button on the top navigation bar.

Step 2: Click on the Apply button on the right.

Step 3: Enter your Leave Type and the Start (and End Date) in the form that appears. You can also add a Reason if you wish.

Step 4: Click Submit when you're done.

Once you complete these steps, your request will be sent to your team approver. If you are an admin, your leave request will be auto-approved.

On Slack

To use the Slack integration, you need to have Pause integrated with Slack.

Step 1: In any Slack channel or chat, type /pause and hit enter.

Step 2: Once Pause responds with a list of options, click on the Apply for a Leave option.

Step 3: Enter your Leave Type and the Start and End Date. You can also add a Reason if you wish.

Step 4: Click Apply.

Your request will be sent to your Approver. If you're an admin, your request will be auto-approved.

Auto-decline events on Google Calendar

To keep your time-off distraction-free, Pause can auto-decline meeting requests during a leave period. This also keeps teams informed well in advance so projects can stay on track.

To set up this feature, please ensure Pause is connected to Google Calendar.

To set up the Auto-decline events feature:

Step 1: Go to your Profile in the top right corner.

Step 2: Select the Preferences tab on the left.

Step 3: Turn on Auto-decline events in Google calendar using the toggle.

Step 4 (Optional): Write an Out of Office message that is sent every time your events are auto-declined by Pause.

Set up Slack notifications for public holidays

Accepted Answer

To set up this feature, you'll need to ensure Pause has been integrated with your Slack team. Only admins can set up this feature.

To set up Slack notifications for public holidays:

Step 1: Click on the Settings button on the top navigation bar.

Step 2: Select the Integrations option on the left side panel.

Step 3: Under the Special Notifications section, turn on the toggle for Public Holidays.

Step 4: Click on Customize and a pop-up will open up.

Step 5: Use the Slack Channels dropdown to select the relevant channel. We'd recommend choosing one where all your team members are present, so everyone gets notified.

Step 6: Select the frequency of notifications from the dropdown.

Step 7: Click Save to save your settings.

Send AFK notifications on Slack

Accepted Answer

AFK = Away From Keyboard. When you need to step away from your desk and won't be replying to messages for some time, use Pause to update your Slack status to 💨 and send a notification to a preferred public channel.

This is a Slack-only feature. To use it, please ensure that Pause has been integrated into your Slack workspace.

| AFK Notifications are not automatically sent to a predetermined channel. If you would like to send AFK notifications to a new notifications channel, please create the channel first (like #afk-notifications) and ask teammates to select only that channel when using the AFK feature.

To send an AFK notification on Slack:

Step 1: Type /pause afk and hit Enter.

Step 2: Select the time period and preferred channel for notification in the dropdown.

Step 3: Click on Notify.

You can also do it this way:

Step 1: Type /pause and hit Enter.

Step 2: Click on 💨 Say you’re AFK.

Step 3: Select the time period and preferred channel for notification in the dropdown.

Step 4: Click on Notify.

Your 💨 Slack status will disappear as soon as the AFK period expires.

Get birthday and work anniversary notifications on Slack

With the Pause-Slack integration, you can set up Special Notifications to notify all teams about upcoming birthdays and work anniversaries.

Only admins can enable this feature.

Some prerequisites to enable Special Notifications:

Before you get started, please ensure that Pause has been integrated with Slack.

Please ensure that teammates have set their dates of birth and work anniversaries on their personal profiles. If a teammate hasn't set this information, your teams won't be notified about it on Slack.

If you're an admin and you have access to these details, you can add them to team members' profiles yourself.

To set up Special Notifications:

Step 1: Go to the Settings page on the top navigation bar.

Step 2: Select the Integrations option on the left side panel.

Step 3: Under the Special Notifications section, turn on the Birthdays toggle.

Step 4: Select the Slack Channel on which all members in your organisation will get notified.

Automatically update Slack status when on leave

Accepted Answer

When this feature is enabled, Pause automatically adds a 🌴 emoji to your Slack "away" status during a leave period. When a leave period ends, the emoji disappears.

To enable the Slack "away" status emoji:

Step 1: Go to your Profile in the top right corner of Pause.

Step 2: Click the Preferences tab on the left.

Step 3: Go to the Slack tab.

Step 4: Click Allow Pause to Edit Status to give desired permissions to Pause.

Step 5: Follow the required permissions step.

You're all set! Your Slack status will now feature a 🌴 emoji when you're on leave.
